Photography FAQ

What's your headshot philosophy? (For Actors)

First and foremost, it has to be a good headshot. It has to look like you at your very, very best. I believe the strongest headshots (the ones that make casting directors and agents go wow) are the ones that are genuinely natural, fun, exciting and organically beautiful. It has to be perfectly composed and strong. I strive to cater each headshot session to be unique for the individual. To make you comfortable so that I can capture what makes you you. Because that's how you get the great pictures. An expensive camera, a great lense, natural light - that's only half the equation. The rest is about finding that natural energy and beauty inside you and capturing it.

Do you shoot in a studio or outdoors?

The short answer: outdoors. I love love love outdoor light. It's natural, its perfect, there are an infinite amount of 'backgrounds' that the city has to offer and it feels like a shame to let that go to waste. If it's raining or in the middle of winter, the next best thing is a gorgeous indoor location with huge windows and lots of natural light shining through, but still the focus is on the natural light. Many photographers like to work in a studio, I don't. The authenticity that sunlight brings to a portrait isn't something you can recreate in a studio so I don't even try. Something about real sunlight brings any picture to life.

What is your availability?

You should contact me 2-3 weeks in advance if you know what date you'd like to book your shoot. If you're flexible, even better! Just give me a call or shoot me an email and we can work with both of our schedules to find a time that works. In general, I have morning and afternoon sessions available each day. Morning sessions start around 10am, afternoon sessions start around 3pm (earlier in the winter due to the shorter days).

What happens at the meetings before the shoot?

The free session consultations are an opportunity for you to ask me any and all questions you have. We can discuss specific ideas you have for your shoot, and further details about the kind of session you want. It's important that you use this time to communicate with me how you want your session to go and the kind of images you want to capture. But mostly this is a time for us to talk and get to know each other. You're under absolutely no obligation to book me, so feel free to schedule a meeting just to meet me and see if i'm the photographer for you!

How long after our session can I see my pictures?

This depends on my schedule in the days after our shoot. But in general, your pictures will be up in an online proofing gallery no more than 3-4 days after our appointment.

Do you blog all of your sessions? Will you blog my session?

The answer to the first question is yes! Unless you don't want me to, of course. I get permission from all of my clients to blog their sessions and include some preview shots from our shoot. If you're uncomfortable with this, no worries! Just let me know! Blogging is a great way for potential clients to see my work without having to go through a gallery, plus, who doesn't love a good blog! There's no pressure for you to have your session blogged if that's something that makes you uncomfortable!

What if I have to reschedule my appointment?

I require 48 hours notice if you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment. I understand life happens, so just let me know as soon as you know you'll have to change our appointment and we'll find a new time to accommodate any situation.

Portraits: What To Wear

Short and sweet: whatever you pick for your shoot, make sure you are comfortable! Stay true to who you are. If you feel uncomfortable, the camera will see it. A relaxed you is a more beautiful you. If you wanna wear sneakers instead of 4" heels - do it girlfriend! Guys - a tee instead of a shirt and tie? You have my permission to rock that out.

Word On The Street

I know, I know - it's all fine and good to hear all the nice things I have to say about myself, but you want to hear it from real people I've worked with. You are just so darn smart. That's why I can't wait to work with you. But first – read up on what past clients had to say about me. Then hurry up and introduce yourself already!

Photography Pricing

I know that the decision of whether or not to hire a photographer (or designer!) often comes to down price. A smart consumer wants to know exactly what they're paying for. I totally get that. But fear not - I've established a price list that breaks it all down for you. I also offer custom packages that cater to any budget.
